Second 2010 Summer Camp draws to a close

The second 2010 Asian University Summer Camp is almost over now, and some of the campers have written about their experiences.

We’re campers in English summer camp at Asian University. Our names are Toh, Aeiy and Aun. We came here because we want to practice our English language, meet new friends and live with new people which has made us adapt our behavior. In this summer camp, we learn and do many activities together from Monday to Friday. On Saturday night we have parties and dress up ourselves for theme parties and we have a lot of fun. On Sundays we go outside to visit many places.

Last weekend, we had fun and went to Khao Kheaw Open Zoo. We saw many kinds of animal. It was fantastic! Then we went to Lotus in South Pattaya in the afternoon. We went with our friends and bought things that we needed together. We had a great time at camp and we won’t forget everyone!

We heard the news about the Summer Camp at Asian University so we thought that it is a good idea to spend our summer to practice English, make new friends, learn to manage our lives. The things we like about the camp are the classrooms, friends, teachers and more. There are a lot of activities such as sports, cooking, dancing, arts. On Sundays we have an excursion, we went to Jomtien Beach, Khao Kheaw Open Zoo and the department store. On weekdays we have English, Math, and IT classes and sometimes we have a movie night to learn English. On Saturday night we have a party. We have to dress up ourselves by the theme, so we enjoyed about dress up and party so much.

Last week we went to Khao Kheaw Open Zoo. We learn more about the animal so we take the tour car to see all of the animals. We can touch the snake and two baby bearcats. Then we went to Tesco Lotus to buy useful things. Two weekends ago we went to Jomtien Beach, we cleaned the rubbish off the beach and some campers swam in the sea. After that, we went to Central Festival to buy things. We all had a good time together.

We get a lot of English skills in speaking, reading and writing. We’ve made new friends and new experiences. We will never forget this camp!

Another group of students reported their day out like this:

“We came to Summer Camp at Asian University to study and practice English. We also make friends and meet TA (Teacher Assistant) and teachers. They are very nice and kind.

The first week was very fun. There were a lot of activities such as sports, movie nights and theme party. At night, TA took us to special activities such as dancing, sports and IT. In the class, the teachers let us play games and teach about world flags, superheroes and watch movies. The food is delicious. We enjoy it very much.

On Sunday morning, the TAs took us to Jomtien Beach to clean-up the beach and go swimming. We got many plastic bags, trash and dead fish. In the afternoon, we went to Central Festival Pattaya. The TAs let us buy accessories for the Korean Theme party night next week.

We think if anyone has a chance you should join this camp. You will get a lot of knowledge and it's really fun!”

Summer Campers enjoy an afternoon of fun with Laser Tag

On the afternoon of Friday 3 April, Asian University’s Summer Camp hosted the ‘Live Play’ Laser Tag team from Pattaya. They set up their inflatable walls under the trees around the sports centre, and then issued the young campers with their laser-guns and sensors. There were two teams playing each time, with the aim of shooting as many of your opponents as possible. The girls and the boys all entered into the spirit of the game, sporting their sensors on the front and back of their heads.

The matter of winners and losers was not as important as the fun, the posing behind the hides and the chance to shoot at friends and enemies alike.

Four of the campers wrote a little about their experience. Naphat Kukiatkan (Gane), Korakot Teerasawad (Son), Ekarat Fadsura (Bee), Sudthichai Wetchakitwanich (Nyoung) together wrote the following:

“There are many activities in Asian University summer camp. Like growing plants, party night, community service, sports day and camp idol. In last week we had a chance with a very special activities “Laser Tag”.

Laser tag is a game like BB gun apart from BB gun you don’t use bullets, you use a laser. On the players there are sensors which catch the laser. The gun will shoot a laser and if the laser hit the sensor that means you got shot. There were 25 people on each teach. The time was separated into one hour for each round.

It was a lot of fun and enjoyed. We did a lot of running, shooting and getting shot. It also made us laugh a lot and made friendship as well.”

Last Sunday the campers went to Jomtien beach to participate in an environmental day. They helped clean up the beach and surrounding areas to
promote social awareness and responsibility within our community. It was a
great day out with support from the local government who provided safety officers to man the beach and surrounds to ensure a happy and safe environment for all concerned.

One of the leading students Mr. Potchara (Booming) who has returned to Asian University Summer Camp for the second year running and is joining ‘The College’ M4 in May had this to say about the day out:

’ When we arrived at Jomtien Beach we started to clean up the beach by collecting the trash and waste for the community (ourselves) and then, we swam in the sea for one and a half hours. That moment was the greatest sea trip in Thailand for me.

Yellow sand and nice wind together with delicious sea food made it great. Our safety was taken care of by the teacher assistants and the local government body. After we finished swimming we went to take a shower and went shopping then returned to Asian University. Thanks for Teacher and Assistant who created this wonderful sea travel for us’!!
